Lake Awassa (also Awasa/Hawassa) is a lake of the Great Rift Valley located 270 km south of Addis Ababa, and is served by Awasa Airport.

Fishing is a major local industry and early morning tours of the sustainable fishery operation are available. Lake Awasa is a bird watcher's paradise with great viewing along the shore walk as well as from the gardens of local hotels and resorts (most notably the Lewi & the Haile). And be sure to take a boat tour to see the hippos.
